%X Structural lineaments represent large geological structures projected on the earth''s relief, sculpted by weather agents. Remote sensing images are the main tools for the identification and analysis of lineaments at different scales. The present work integrates SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) and Landsat 7 ETM satellite data for the study of the linear features present in the southern region of Serra do Caparaó. Lineaments related to ridges and valleys were vectorized, using the shaded relief image generated from SRTM data. From the shapefiles created, rosette diagrams of absolute frequency and average length of the lineaments were generated. In conjunction with these products, images were generated from edge directional filters applied on band 5 of the Landsat 7 ETM satellite. Based on the compilation of these digital products, a map of structural domains of the southern region of Serra do Caparaó was elaborated. The compartmentalization proposed by the map of structural domains subdivides the study region according to the orientation, frequency and length of the linear features present. The NNE structural domain includes lineaments resulting from tectonic constraints, such as old shear zones and flanks of regional folds. However, the WNW structural domain encompasses lineaments resulting from the carving of talvegues from orthoclinal fluvial courses. Thus, the proposed structural compartmentalization reflects the result of the interaction between two geological factors: the precambrian ductile tectonics and the current fluvial morphogenesis.
